Low-level Laser Light Therapy is a proven effective treatment for androgenic (female and male pattern) hair loss, and Dr. Epstein has been offering it to his patients since 2005. Studies, as well as the experience with our patients, show that LLLT slows down or completely stops the gradual progression of hair loss in the majority of men and women, and can restore density due to the thickening of finer, miniaturized (vellus) hairs.
LLLT is administered at home with the Foundation Light Therapy or FLT devices.
1. Foundation Light Therapy Optima
2. Three connector bands(medium, large and extra-large)
3. Rechargeable powerpack
4. AC charger
OUR COMMITMENT TO YOUR SATISFACTION: If for any reason you, our patient, do not feel you achieved a good result with the laser, 75% of the purchase price will be returned for up to one year.
The typical treatment schedule is three times a week for 10 minutes, or daily 5 minutes daily, for the first six months, which can then be reduced to twice or once a week- however, this schedule should be modulated by the doctor. The process is painless, relatively effortless, and most importantly completely safe without any side effects.
Laser Light Patient Gives Feedback on Results
Low-level Laser Light Therapy helps patients in the following ways:
- Helps slow down and stop active shedding in men and women
- Helps speed up healing after a hair transplant
- Helps thicken existing hair, providing patients with a fuller appearance of hair density in men and women
Low-level Laser Light Therapy works by two different mechanisms. First, it increases blood flow to the scalp, and second, it directly stimulates the mitochondria (energy centers) of the hair follicles, increasing cellular activity and strengthening hair growth. The result is stabilization and an actual potential reversal of the hair loss process, helping turn miniaturized hairs into stronger “terminal” hairs.
Laser Light Therapy
* All patients are unique and individual results may vary.
These therapies are best provided through a physician experienced in not only laser light therapy but in all hair loss therapies. Working with Nurse Practitioner Andrea Miranda our office laser specialist, our doctors are able not only to properly evaluate the patient, oversee the treatment and make recommendations, but also to follow the patient to determine the efficacy of the treatment and to recommend other potential treatments.
Used privately in the comfort of home, these laser devices are completely painless and safe.
While it does not work for all individuals, LLLT is definitely effective in 60-70% of patients. It seems to be most effective, and works synchronously, with simultaneous use on the three days a week the laser is used with minoxidil.

How Low-level Laser Light Therapy is offered by the Foundation for Hair Restoration
Patients have two options- at home devices and in office:
At Home
The at-home laser device is convenient, and provides the same dose of laser light energy as the in-office device. The two devices we recommend are the Foundation Light Therapy device and the Foundation Light Therapy Optima.
In Office
In our Miami office we offer laser therapy using an in-office unit. All hair transplant patients are provided at no charge one month of in-office LLLT therapy after a procedure. In addition, some patients choose to utilize the in-office device rather than purchasing an at-home unit if they live close to the office and can come by twice a week.

Frequently asked questions
These devices meet or exceed all federal safety and manufacturing standards. Laser therapy is a 100% painless treatment that has absolutely no side-effects.
Laser therapy is the use of visible wavelengths of light (e.g. ‘red’) which have a biological effect on cells.
It is known that wavelengths of light produced by the diodes of the device are associated with an increase in energy production within the cells. This may be the primary mechanism for helping patients’ hair follicles produce thicker, healthier looking hair. The laser also causes an increase in blood flow to the scalp.
Laser Therapy can be used as a stand-alone treatment regimen or in conjunction with FDA-approved medications. LLLT has also been shown to accelerate healing after a hair transplant.
The application of minoxidil (Rogaine) just prior to the use of the laser seems to enhance the absorption and therefore enhance the results of minoxidil, so we recommend this protocol to our motivated patients.
The FLT laser cap includes the rechargeable battery pack, A/C power adapter for charging, and the patented laser therapy device containing 300 ‘pure’ laser diodes (no LEDs) 650nm/5mW each. Sturdy airport-compliant carrying case included. International power adapters are available, rechargeable battery pack.
FLT devices can be purchased through the office of Dr. Epstein, either by calling 305-666-1774 or by email info AndreaNP@fhrps.com.
It should be noted that simultaneous with laser therapy, patients are encouraged to follow medical and nutritional guidelines for enhancing hair growth. These recommendations can be provided by our office.
Along with the treatment course, it may be determined that other therapies and possibly hair transplantation is indicated, in light of the patient’s goals and response to the treatment.
